Supplementary Health



The National Agency of Additional Health, ANS, was created at the time of the regulation of the supplemental health sector, supported by Law 9.656/98, and has the institutional objective of promoting the defense of the public interests in the supplemental assistance to health, of regulating the operators of the sector – inclusively their relations with third parties and consumers – and of contributing to the development of health actions in the Country.

Considering the current configuration of private healthcare in Brazil, its actions and regulations have a direct impact in the activity of Diagnostic Medicine companies in Brazil.

Those regulation activities include the expedition of rules and standards for the operators to address information, the integration of information with the Unified Health System (SUS) database, as well as the release of information about the operators for the community. These information are available in different publications and search system of the Agency´s site in the Internet, at the address www.ans.gov.br , and constitute one of the most important sources of private health information in the country.
